Become a Supporter
Alamelu Children’s Homes (Canada) is a Canadian charity whose main goal is to support the Sri Kanyakumari Gurukula Ashram (SKGA), a children’s home in southern India.
Alamelu Children’s Homes (Canada) supports SKGA by finding sponsors for individual children, and by raising money for food, healthcare and education. Because we are a small volunteer organization, virtually all the money we collect goes to the children at SKGA. Unfortunately, the long-time stability of SKGA is today made vulnerable by the skyrocketing cost of living in India.
In 1952, Alamelu Ammal, recently widowed, went on a pilgrimage to the temple at Kanyakumari. She found abandoned and homeless children whom she gathered around her and SKGA was born. SKGA now houses 150 poor and orphaned children, a school and several cottages on a campus in a rural area outside the town of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu state (South India)
